Shingle Roof vs. Standing Seam Roof: What Is Best For Your Home? – January 2018 At AMCAT Roofing, we’re proud to give stand-out service to our customers every time! Every home is unique, and we love finding the perfect solution for your long-term comfort. Recently, our rock-star Client Representative, Ethan Wilkinson, worked with a customer in Durango who had ongoing leaks in his roof causing damage in his garage and in another section of his house. Though this customer had originally worked with another roofer in Durango, he was left dissatisfied with the lack of follow through and still had persistent roofing issues that needed to be addressed. When Ethan went out to inspect the roof, he found hail damage that could be covered by our customer’s insurance. Ethan took charge of the insurance claim process for our customer, and was approved for a new shingle roof. However, after consultation with Ethan, our customer decided he would use that insurance money and add a bit more to upgrade from a new shingle roof to a 26 gauge standing seam roof. In addition to replacing the roof, AMCAT Roofing was able to address an issue with the original roof construction, framing to raise a lower slope to make it flush with the rest of the roof. Our custom coiler made panels on-site, and our brake was used to custom bend the trim and flashing pieces. Would you choose a standing seam roof over shingles? Read on to check out the pros and cons! Shingle Roof Did you know that “[a]sphalt shingles are seen on at least 70% of homes in the United States”? With that kind of popularity, shingle roofing must be doing something right! The main pros of shingle roofs are their convenience. With simple installation and accessible price points, choosing a shingle roof for your home may seem like a no-brainer. However, this top roofing choice isn’t without its drawbacks. Asphalt shingles may be affordable, but are less durable than other choices. Susceptible to damage from the outdoor elements as well as mildew, algae, and mold, shingles often need to be replaced. Shingles also lack the energy efficiency of other types of roofs. Standing Seam Roof If you want to avoid the risks of shingle roofing, there is another option! “[M]etal roofing is growing more popular because of its energy efficiency and cooling ability,” among other benefits. Customers of AMCAT Roofing are choosing standing seam roofs to achieve a better fit using our custom coiler and brake, and to take advantage of the impressive lifespan of this metal roofing. For those of us who get lots of snow during the wintertime, a standing seam roof provides easy home upkeep as the snow simply slides off! The main con of standing seam roofing is the cost upfront. However, it’s worth talking to our client representatives to learn more about the value of this choice. When it comes to choosing the right roofing options for you, we’re on your side! We will walk alongside you throughout the process, to offer you the best possible experience and quality workmanship on your roof every time. It’s important to us that our customers are delighted with their new roof, and we’ll go above and beyond to make that happen! Contact our friendly team at AMCAT Roofing today to get started.
